This is not like a fully completed thought but yk

So I’ve done my first aid + CPR a few times. And every single time I try and bring up scenarios for fat folks

Specifically like ‘what if someone is too large for me to wrap my arms around then to do the heimleich’

And its incredibly rare I get a decent answer.

How absolutely insane is it that me, as a fat person, is asking how to have MY life saved or to save ANOTHER life, is an impossible feat if someone is fat.

Most of the time they tell me to 'just try anyways uwu’

There has got to be a better option.

From a first aid and CPR trainer, who is also fat.

The heimleich is scientifically as effective as slapping someone VERY hard on the back. The only reason it’s so well taught is the man that invented it did a lot of great PR for himself. It’s also a bit easier for smaller framed people to get the necessary force in, because people are often extremely scared to hurt people, even in life threatening situations.

With larger bodied people, whether they be fat, tall, muscular, etc. If you cannot get your arms around them, literally just slap the shit out of their shoulders. You want hard, open palmed slaps right in the center of the shoulders or slightly below.

If they are too tall for you to reach that high, guide them to lean over the back of a chair, and then slap slap slap slap slap.

It’s been proven to be just as effective through many studies. It just doesn’t have a trademarked name and a dramatic effect in film.

If you have to do CPR on a larger bodied person, again, fat, body builder, tall and broad, whoever, the trick to finding where you want to put your hands if going to be to take your hand and shove it in their armpit. No seriously. Put your hand in their armpit, then drag it in a straight line towards yourself until you’re in the center of the chest, then put your other hand beneath that one. This is where you push. Then you are going to move the arm closest to you out of the way so you can get closer to them, and get the leverage you need to press down for compressions. The more of your body weight that is over your hands, the better the compression will be. Act like you are trying desperately to pack the last of your clothes in a suitcase, and just slam down hard on their chest.

They will make *horrible* noises. You might even break ribs.

But a broken rib is better than being dead.

One day, perhaps, other CPR and First Aid instructors will actually know and teach this shit. But the medical field is filled with people who don’t know, don’t care, or just outright hate fat people. So while this information won’t fix your complaint, I do hope it helps someone out there with saving their loved ones, should it ever be needed.

i think the main thing that pisses me off about people refusing to acknowledge the copaganda in across the spiderverse is that they believe all the cops featured in the story are shining examples of how cops “should be.” i.e., family men who are supportive of their kids and want to make a difference in the world. like, genuine question: do you think the REAL cops who brutalize civilians at protests not have nuclear families at home, don’t go to parent teacher conferences, don’t love and support their teenage daughters, etc? or do you believe the requirement for becoming a cop means having a loveless lonely life akin to that of ebenezer scrooge

when the supervisor showed up to give me this I was 9 hours into an 11 hour shift and my back was killing me from menstruation aches so I was gonna lie down for five minutes on my “break” (we don’t get breaks) but only got One (1) knee on the chair before he showed up to yell at me to sit up

every single commenter: Exactly. This. Read it again. sometiems theres icky things in stories that hurt your feelings but that DOESNT MEAN the author is a bad person. sometimes stories are about evil and vile and disgusting things but its okay. its FINE yo write about any fantasy you ever have because It Is Not Real. depiction is NOT support. if your feelings gwt hurt by a story its because youre an idiot child. im actually personally coping bevause i am a survivor of whatever thing you morally oppose. having funny xD racism momwnts in your books is notmal. hashtag i love child pornography. hashtag the owk house on disney channel

I still can’t believe you motherfuckers are actually doing crab day. I literally saw a trans rights are human rights post that was marked as sexual themes. You are out of your minds giving these motherfuckers your money

okay honestly as much crap as you guys see me say about being a lifeguard I WILL say that one of my favorite parts is the people. as much as I also have that automatic “how dare you come here and make me do my job” attitude especially when the weather sucks. because from what I’ve heard the general public treats employees anywhere else like garbage especially in retail and fast food right? but as a lifeguard sure there’s Occurrences every once in a while but those are really rare. most people are either neutral or really really nice.

kids think you’re cool and will talk to you forever (people aren’t SUPPOSED to talk to you so adults tend not to unless they’re like the only ones in the pool or have a question but kids don’t really know) which helps pass the time in the chair when it’s not busy. kids are fascinated by what we do to test the water every 2 hours and having an audience like you’re demonstrating a science project makes it fun. one time this group of kids was even throwing diving toys on my break for me to get. people have given me snacks, drinks, candy, tiny sunscreen tubes, money (once) and my brother has gotten a toy. people usually “thank me for my service” like a cop or something when they leave. it’s so nice having this sort of innate respect and I wish every job had the same experience because these are the kinds of things that make miserable jobs a little more bearable

happy lifeguard appreciation day 🥳

today I wanted to celebrate this rare monday off by sleeping in but work called at 9am asking if I could do 9am opening shift at a pool aka “spring out of bed and leave right this second” and didn’t even offer extra pay like they did when they did this to me yesterday. how is everyone else being appreciated? 💜

someone at the anti carceral suicide training talked about how in order to be a therapist who actually supports your clients you have to be comfortable with breaking the law. Also, how important it is for therapists to understand that despite their individual values and the benefit they bring their clients, the whole system of psychiatry and therapy is entwined with incarceration, racism, and capitalism. And to actually confront that, therapists need to commit to breaking mandatory reporting laws and not incarcerate any of their clients.

And I’ve just been thinking about this all day, and how a lot of times therapy is presented as a neutral or inherently beneficial system when in truth it is often a system of violence. it’s been very powerful for me to be in these spaces with mental healthcare providers who are doing the work to figure out how to radically change the system.

So it can’t get lost in reblog tags:

This article pulls zero punches. Incomplete list of potential triggers: miscarriage, medical neglect, loss of fertility, infant death, vomit, maternal trauma, mention of genetic and birth defects, and forced pregnancy.

The women named in this article have suffered, terribly, unnecessarily, because state law makers meddled in matters they didn’t understand.

article published July 21, 2023

Forced birthers are some truly evil and callous excuses for human beings. The amount of pain they willingly bring into the world is sickening. And they don’t care! If they even acknowledge the suffering they’re responsible for, it’s only to admit they want to punish non-believers. There is no sympathy or altruism in their dark, withered hearts, just cruelty and sheer hatred.

One of them told me recently that if they knew an *unfertilized egg* was going to become fertilized in the future they would protect it over the well being of any number of people.
